Congratulations on your successful venture into the professional cleaning business! Be sure to bookmark this page for fresh cleaning tips to make your job easier as well ideas to grow your business, keep your customers satisfied and more.

Know your product: The growth of your business depends on the care you give your client's home. You worst nightmare happens when you don't thoroughly research a product and it ends up ruining the surface. You have not only lost the one customer but their referrals as well. You will find helpful information in all sections of this website. Pay special attention to my article about floor care, which contains important information that will protect not damage your client's floors.

  • Unfortunately the only way you learn that a product will damage a surface is after the damage is done. Not sure whether or not a product is safe to use? You are always welcome to email me. I have spent hundreds of hours researching cleaning tools as well as cleaners and am more than happy to share this information. Run and an internet search on the product for additional information. You may find a blog or forum discussing the merits or pitfalls of a product.

Cost Savings: Gasoline prices are rising daily. By summer you will be paying $3 a gallon will be common. Increases like this that you have no control over do bite into your profits. There is help. Filtakleen Ten 35 increases your gas mileage between 8% and 13%. Some people report a 20% increase. With gas prices escalating to $3 a gallon, one bottle of Filtakleen will save you over $450 at the pump. Mary Moppins is dedicated to saving our Mother Earth so we offer this product for far less than the manufacturers suggest retail price. Increasing your gas mileage is only the beginning of the benefits you receive from Filtakleen Ten 35.

  • The Supply Question: Do you supply your own cleaning equipment or do your clients provide them for you? On the surface it seems less costly to use your client's cleaning equipment. Stop and take a look at your own home. How many times have you reached for a cleaning rag only to find your favorite rag was used yesterday to wipe off the lawn mower? Or you need a bottle of cleaner to remove a stain and find it empty - if you found it at all. Your client's home is no different. Rags will be misplaced or not washed, bottles empty and vacuum cleaner bags full.

  • If you currently clean two homes a day, you will gain 45 minutes simply by carrying your own products. Rather than spend the first 20 to 25 minutes changing the vacuum cleaner bag, filling bottles and gather supplies, you walk in and immediately begin cleaning. Carry the best equipment available to further reduce your cleaning time. A good vacuum will save you 40 to 45 minutes per home. Add a 25 foot extension cord to your vacuum so you can reach several rooms without taking the extra time to find a new socket.

A good quality vacuum along with the Mary Moppins Mop and you will move from cleaning two homes a day to three. By the end of the year, that one additional home a day makes a huge difference in your yearly income far outweighing the cost of the equipment.

Quick Tip: The first thing my seminar attendees learn is my number one rule of cleaning "Give your product time to work." For instance, when you clean a bathroom, spray down the shower just before you begin wiping down the countertops and toilet. It gives your cleaner time to dissolve the soap residue buildup.

  • Suggest to your client that they switch soap in the bathroom. It's the talc in bar soap that causes the buildup problems. Have them switch to liquid, glycerin or an all natural soap. Not only will it help cut your cleaning time because you no longer have to scrub soap residue off the showers (you now have time to clean the refrigerator!) but it will save their pipes from clogging as well. That buildup of soap residue doesn't stop on the shower walls. It continues right to the drains where it causes havoc there as well. Little wonder why drains clog with years of soap buildup on them.

Breathe Easy: Good high quality and environmentally friendly cleaners not only cut down your cleaning time but they protect you from the affects of breathing toxic chemicals and absorbing them through hand contact.

  • Bi-O-Kleen will prove to be one of your most valuable products outside of our mop. Awarded the Green Seal of Approval, use it full strength to quickly dissolve heavy soap scum buildup on showers walls. Mix 1 tablespoon per quart bottle for an all purpose cleaner for use as a toilet bowl cleaner as well as showers and counters and as an excellent all purpose cleaner.

Erase It for Bathrooms can't be beat for removing hard water rings around toilets. Talk about satisfied customers, they will rave about their shiny toilets to their friends who will also want your services! Use it safely without the worry of scratching toilets like a pumice stone. It removes iron deposits as well as hard water or calcium buildup.

Build Your Business through word of mouth. Advertising costs both time and money. Client referral remains the cheapest most effective method to reach new customers. What can you do to get those referrals? Customer service and I can't stress that enough.

  • A thorough cleaning of your client's home is mandatory for keeping that client. Add a small but appreciated job each time you clean a home and you will have people on a waiting list for your services. These can be things like cleaning out a few shelves of the refrigerator or dusting the baseboards in one room each visit. Most services charge extra for these services so get a jump on your competition and you will end up with their clients!
