Hard To Clean Dirt

Today let's take a look at some of the really down and dirty jobs that are frequently ignored when doing the deep spring cleaning.

Start by pouring 2 cups of grain based distilled white vinegar into the tank along with a tablespoon of my concentrated CleanEz at night before bed. This allows the vinegar and CleanEz time to soften the tank residue. The next morning turn off the water at the back of the toilet and flush. Scrub with a green scrub pad found at the hardware or grocery store or a course '0' steel wool pad.

*NOTE: Make sure to use only made from grain vinegar. 'Food grade' or 'safe for pickles' vinegars are petroleum based and should not have been approved by the FDA for consumption.

Next up: Window screens and frames. Screens are often the time consuming job of cleaning windows. Head to the hardware store for a large yellow sponge found in the paint department. Use it dry and wipe both sides of the screen. Ditch the time consuming buckets of sudsy water and sloppy mess.

While at the hardware store, pick up some sponge paint brushes and an inexpensive two inch paint brush. Brush cobwebs and dirt out of the window frames with the paint brush. Then dip the sponge paint brush in a diluted CleanEz solution or liquid dish soap to clean the frame. It is narrow enough to fit in those groves.

The third most important job and one that could save a house fire, is to pull out the dryer. Rubber band a light weight towel around a handle and shove it down the dryer vent hose to remove built up lint. Then clean the nooks and crannies in the doors to remove any lint collected there.

Now call a professional to come clean your furnace ducts. Yes it may cost a bit but it only needs to be done every 5 or 6 years and could spare a house fire.
