Go Green

Green Clean the Bathroom

The bathroom contains more toxic cleaners than any other room in the home. Let's take a close look at various ways to go green your bathroom and rid it of toxic chemicals for improved health both to you and our Earth.

Grab the bottle of shampoo or conditioner. Can you pronounce any of the words? Probably not. Head to a website http://safecosmetics.org to find the rating for the products you are using. You will be shocked at the toxins you are putting on your body.

First change your hair shampoo, conditioner, liquid soaps, bar soaps, hand lotions, hair gels and hair sprays to certified earth friendly products. Bar soaps, shampoo, conditions and liquid soaps among other toxic chemicals contain sodium laurel sulphate or SLS for short. SLS is what makes products foam.

SLS as well as bleach pulls the petrochemicals out of plastic bottles. The two combine to make the most toxic chemical known to man - dioxin, or better known as Agent Orange. That means every time you wash your hair, apply hand lotion or wash your hands if you use liquid soaps, you are washing with Agent Orange.

Next stop using air fresheners in the bathroom. Most contain chemicals that numb your sinuses. They do nothing to get rid of odors or they merely mask a bad odor with toxic chemicals. There are excellent natural air-fresheners made with enzymes on the market that destroy odors without posing health problems.

Finally stop using hair spray. Chances are you are having a difficult time getting the sticky stuff off mirrors, counters and floors. Guess what? It's also stuck on your lungs, intestines, organs, brain and sinuses. Switch to organic gels and stop the decline of your memory and worse.
